My Experience In JPMorgan Chase's Recruitment Process
All about JPMC recruitment process and Code For Good Hackathon
Spoiler Alert: We were the first runner up at Code For Good Hackathon 2022 organized by JP Morgan Chase & Co. :P
Please Note that this was an On-Campus Opportunity and your College/University needs to be a part of JPMC’s recruitment drive
The Selection Process To Code For Good:
Their recruitment drive starts as early as mid february or the starting of march. It is divided into three steps:
- CODING ROUND
- VIDEO INTERVIEW VIA HIREVUE
- CODE FOR GOOD HACKATHON
Explanation of each step:
CODING ROUND:
After registration, I received a Hackerrank test link and it was to be completed in the next two days after receiving the link. There were a total of 3 questions and I found their difficulty level from easy to moderate. You will be able to solve them if you have been preparing for your placements for at least 4-5 months consistently.
VIDEO INTERVIEW:
There was no elimination as such and everybody received a link to complete the video interview via HireVue platform. It was to completed within the next three days after receiving the link. There were two behavioral questions.
- Describe a teamwork project in which you faced any problem and how did you overcome it?
- Where do you see yourself in career growth?
Use STAR Technique to answer any question similar to A
And for any questions similar to B, make sure to include following details in your answer:
- Align with the role
- Ambitious and forward thinking.
- Willing to go the extra mile in pursuit of a goal
- Career path and skills improvement As I started the interview, first I was presented with the question and then given one minute approx to think about my solution. I had two chances to record my video on the HireVue platform for each question. Safe to say, I nailed both of them in the first chance itself.
PS: Prepare well in advance your answer for above two questions because most of the time, you will also get the question similar to the above two and you can modify your answer to fit the scenario mentioned in your question
PSS: Dress professionally. Make sure to sit in a comfortable and silent environment with a professional background. It matters more than you think.

About JPMC’s Code For Good Hackathon
According to JP Morgan Chase &Co., Code For Good is a series of hackathons hosted in JPMorgan’s global technology centers. During this event, participants spend 12-24 hours with our employees, developing creative solutions to help nonprofits tackle real-world problems.
So, I finally cleared both the rounds and was informed about the Hackathon. The Code For Good Hackathon was stated to be held on 11-12th June 2022. Quite excited, I started to improve my development skills.
We were informed about our team members 2 days prior to the hackathon. I tried to reach out to them as soon as possible so that we all can discuss our respective tech stacks, strengths and build a professional bond, to begin with. One day prior to the Hackathon, there was a session conducted by JPMC to give us more information about what to do and what not to do in the hackathon.
THE DAY OF THE HACKATHON
JPMC released the problem statements at around 9 in the morning. We were supposed to fill a survey form with our ratings to the problem statement, highest rating to our preferred problem statement. The results of the survey were announced and we got our preferred problem statement.

Our Problem statement was given by Bangalore Food Bank
Our Solution:
According to the problem statement, our objective is to develop a UI to display the NGO's programs and reach a better audience. We also need to develop a notification system and international payments system. Our product includes following features:
- Created a more user-friendly interface by dividing it into different sections to create an exciting and hassle-free experience
- Integrating the Stripe API for international payments
- Sending an acknowledgment via email
- Visual representation using donation record and chatbot to increase the fund raising engagement

Additional Features:
- A data analytics page to increase fundraising engagement by showing how the funds are used
- A chat-bot for users to easily navigate through the website, get answers for FAQs and spread awareness.
Future Scope and Utility:
- Certificates/Tokens of appreciation can be awarded to those who donate regularly.
- Login for users to have personal facilities like donations made by him/her, events attended, etc.
- Dashboard for volunteers to keep a track of their volunteering activities and upcoming events.
- Admin to have the power to regulate the data about the donors/donations.
- To integrate the chatbot.

The Mentors
Our team was assigned three mentors from different domains of expertise from JPMC. They guided us throughout the hackathon related to technical as well as non technical aspects of the problem statement.
The mentors also conducted individual interviews with each team member. Their feedback was one of the most important factor taken into consideration while extending the offer letter to each student.

Result
My team was announced as the first runner up for Bangalore Food Bank’s problem statement. On 19th July, 2022 I got an email stating that I have been selected for the Software Engineer Program Class of 2023.
My Personal Views
Overall, I really had a great time throughout the hackathon collaborating with people of such diverse cultural and technical backgrounds. It also helped me to adapt to many aspects in a short span. Personally, I became better at working with a team which consisted of members with such huge caliber.
Here, I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to my team and the mentors. All of them contributed throughout the hackathon and gave me constant encouragement to build the Best possible product that caters to all the requirements of the NGO. Thank you once again guys, It would not have been possible without you guys.
Although I attended the hackathon virtually and missed the energy and vibe of in-person events. but the organizers really did a great job and made the hackathon as close to an in-person event as possible. All thanks to Mridula and Anshuman, you guys were amazing.
